  Cognitive dissonance... help!

  something strange (maybe not) is happening to me.

  when i come here, or get online and find proof that jehovah's witnesses are not "the truth", or when i talk to my brother and really think stuff through, i'm absolutely convinced that i'm doing the right thing by leaving before i get older and waste more of my life.. but when i'm tired or scared or in some other way not fully active in thought, i still feel guilty and fearful that armageddon will come and i'll regret this.. i had expected that the moment i consciously and in use of reason convinced my self that this wasn't the truth, i'd be mentally free from it.

  but i still feel its grip on the back of my mind.. what can i do to get rid of that dissonance (or whatever it's called)?.

  Fear is a very powerful tool that can be used to manipulate people. That’s one of the reasons why you see it used by so many different cults. “The End is Near!!! Only those in our special little club will be saved!!!”

  What you’re feeling is part of a normal process. How many years did you attend indoctrination sessions at the Kingdom Hall? How many years have you been surrounded by other people who have also been indoctrinated into the JW belief system? It takes time to undue that kind of “programming”. If you had been raised as a Moonie, Scientologist, Amish or Mormon you would be going through the same thought process right now. In the back of your mind you would be wondering what if the Moonies, Scientologists, Amish or Mormons are “right”.

  Please post all the little things that make no sense about the JWs

  i want to collect a bunch of things that i can use to help my son see that the wbts and being a jw makes no sense.. i have a few in mind already.

  they have to be things that might matter to a teenager, so doctrine will probably be out!.

  The demonizing of "Worldly" people. It makes no sense to discriminate against an entire group of people. There are good and bad people found in every group, including the JW’s. It’s ignorant to assume that someone is a good or bad person simply because of their membership in a special club or group. This is an important lesson for a child.

  most trying to recover and still get my head straight, this religion when you find it's not the 'truth' is hard to move on sometimes.

  Disgusted over what her parents gave the Watchtower org.!

  former jehovah's witness, pioneer and bethelite woman is disgusted over how much money her parents gave to the watchtower org., over 160 gorgeous acres of land in upstate new york.

  one of the watchtower farms buildings was built on a portion of this land.

  she will be telling her whole story and how her life was adversely affected by the "evils of the watchtower org".

  The fact that that campaigns such as this one can't clearly identify an organization that is godly or spiritual means they haven't established any truth elsewhere and they're profoundly self-destructive.

  Your Jehovah is showing Spade. If you want to continue to post under the guise that you're married to a recent "study" you need to word your posts more carefully. Or you can just be honest about who you are. So what's your real story Spade?

  What are the names of the current GB members? Do the R&F know the Names?

  i never knew who was controlling my life.

  i didn't know who they were, how they governed, what they personally believed etc.. granted the wtbts never put any of that out there but there are people who knew them and would of course relate "experiences" of meeting them and from that you could derive certain aspects of their personality.. i never thought to investigate the leadership until i started asking questions.. so how many are there now and what are their names?

  i would like to ask my family if they can name them by heart.

  Someone should photoshop straightjackets on the GB. They're all nutjobs.

  I actually think it would be a good strategy to find out more about the personal lives of the GB. What kind of education do they have? Any skeletons in their closets? It would help to expose who is behind the Watchtower's curtain. Of course I realize that the lawyers are probably more in charge, but that's not what Witnesses are told.
